CSH Concert Band 

The Concert Band at CSH is an ensemble of up to 60 members whose performance season spans the entire school year. The concert band is for those students beginning their band experience at the high school level.  The musical training they will receive takes the students from a beginning high school level to an advanced level of musical skill and performance.

The Concert Band performs some of the finest, most challenging literature available for high school bands. Practice is expected, and private lessons, while not required, are highly encouraged. Band rehearsals are for the sole purpose of practicing the music as a group, or learning how to play one's instrument in band, not for learning how to play one's instrument. Therefore, each student must possess an advanced level of proficiency on their instrument and must take an individual audition at least once per semester to assess their progress on the assigned repertoire. Auditions are mandatory and part of the students grade. Quarterly evaluative auditions will also be used to determine a student’s seating in their section.

Grading System

All grades in this class will be classified by the following:

Participation- 40%

• Class- Weekly participation grades will be given.
• Rehearsals and Performances- 100 pts
• Partial rehearsal or performance- 65 pts

1. Tardiness to warm-up, leaving early, not being prepared with necessary materials…
2. Performances are not complete until the last performer or group is finished performing and all items used are returned to their proper place.  Leaving a concert early will result in the grade above.  There are no exceptions.

• Playing and/or Written Examinations- 30%
• Concerts/ Performances- 30%
  (Includes-District/State Auditions and Participation)

Rehearsal Obligations

The following obligations will be followed each and every day in the band facilities:

1. Be in your seat ready to learn when the director steps on the podium.                                            
2. Be prepared with all materials each and every day.
3. When the conductor steps on the podium, you are immediately quiet and ready to begin.
4. Be recognized before speaking, and leave your seat only with permission.
5. Show RESPECT to all people.
6. GUM, FOOD, and DRINKS are not permitted in the band facilities (bottled water is allowed).

February 17-19 – CSU Honor Band

February 24-26 – Western State College All-Colorado Honor Band

February 22-25 – CSH Musical

February 24-25- CU Honor Band

April 12-14- All State Band at UNC

April 27^th -Metro State Wind Band Celebration/Festival (Symphonic Band and Symphonic Winds)
